Getting Started with Ad$pender

Welcome to this tutorial on Ad$pender.

This tutorial will show you:

  • How to access Ad$pender
  • What kind of information is available
  • How to create a custom report

To get started, from the Parrish Library homepage, select the List of Business Databases on the left side of the page.

Then select Ad$pender.

Note: If you experience issues with this Guide closing when you access the database you may need to open the Guide in a separate window.

What kind of information is available?

Ad$pender allows users to view a top-level summary of the multi-media advertising marketplace.

Creating a Custom Report

  • Click "create" under the custom reports section to the left of the page.

There are six steps to creating your report.

  • Selecting media.
  • Specifying a time period.
  • Selecting a product set.
  • Formatting the report.
  • Adding a report header.
  • Naming the report.

Media

Complete the following steps for selecting media.

  • Select “Magazines” from the list of Available Media.
  • Click on the greater than sign (>) to move it to the list of Selected Media on the right.
  • Select “Internet Display” from the list of Available Media.
  • Click on the greater than sign (>) to move it to the list of Selected Media on the right.
  • Click “Next” located in the bottom right corner.

Time Period

Select a date range from the drop down menu, or enter a specific date range.

For example,

  • Select “Specify Time Period” from the drop down menu.
  • Choose a start date of “Jan 2018.”
  • Choose an end date of “Jan 2019.”
  • Click “Next” located in the bottom right corner.

Product Set

This can be done by selecting a category or product.

  • In the drop down menu select “brands.”
  • Type “Colgate” in the search box.
  • Click “search.”

This will give you a list of all the Colgate products available in the database as well as the brand itself.

  • Select “Colgate” from the list.
  • Click “Drill” in the bottom window.
  • Select “micro categories.”
  • Select “mouthwashes” from the list.

To see a list of mouthwash brands and product lines, select “Drill” again and then choose “brands.”

From here, select the products or brands you want to compare.

For example,

  • Choose “Act”, “Colgate”, and “Crest” for comparison.
  • Click “Select” in the bottom left corner.

Report Format

In most cases the default settings should be fine.

Generally, you’ll have more products than media so it will make sense to have the products set as rows and the media set as columns.

Viewing measurements in dollars will also make the most sense to most people.

Report Options

Step five provides more formatting options for total and output and allows you to add a report header.

  • Type a header for your report in the report header section.

Report Summary

In the last step you have the option to name your report and double check that it includes the information you’re looking for.

If you’d like to make changes click on the pencil icon next to the section you’d like to make changes to.

Run & View Report

Once you’ve made any changes and are satisfied with your report, click on the green arrow to run the report.

This will take you to the report viewer. Once the status of your report shows completed, you can view the report by clicking on the PDF icon or the CSV icon.
