Getting Started with BCC Research

Open Parrish Library Page

in another browser window to work through this tutorial side by side.

This tutorial covers how to use BCC Research. This tutorial will cover:

- how to search the categories we subscribe to

- navigating reports

- downloading tables, figures, and reports

To begin, from the Parrish Library homepage, select the List of Business Databases on the left side of the page.

Then select BCC Research from the list of Parrish databases.

(If you are off campus, it will ask for your Purdue username and password.)

BCC Research contains market research reports, industry reviews, newsletters and conferences for competitive business intelligence. Let's learn how to use it.

From the homepage, you can browse the reports in the categories included in our subscription. Those categories are on the left-hand side of the page.

For this example, we'll choose Biotechnology.

Click Biotechnology.

From here, you can browse the reports from Biotechnology, relevant reports from other categories, or upcoming reports.

The list of reports is automatically displayed with the most recent report at the top.

If you want to view the full report, you will want to click on the Report Details Code on the right-hand side of the page.

Let's choose a report to view.

Click one of the Report Details Codes.

Once you open a report, you are automatically shown the Highlights tab. This will have a few more details to help you decide about this report.

Use the tabs at the top of the report to navigate the contents.

Click the Scope & Analyst tab.

The Scope and Analyst tab shows the study goals and objectives, the reasons for doing the study, the scope of the report, the intended audience, the methodology and information sources, and the analyst's credentials.

Click the Related Materials tab.

The Related Materials tab shows other reports in BCC Research that may have relevance to your topic.

If you choose this option, please note that the list you are provided may include categories that are not a part of our subscription.

Click the List of Tables and List of Figures tabs.

The Lists of Tables and Figures can each be downloaded to Excel.

Click Library Home in the top left corner.

By returning to the homepage, you can also do a Simple or Advanced search

Though advanced search is an option, you will generally get good results by using the simple search.

Let's do a simple search together.

Select the search box. Search for "cystic fibrosis".

Our search returns a list of reports from all our subscribed categories. As with the category search, the reports are displayed with the most recent at the top of the list.

Choose the top report to use as a sample so that we can learn how to download a BCC Research Report.

Once you open the report, click Download PDF from the downloads box.

From here, you will see a box pop up from the right-hand side of the browser with options to download the entire report, or to download individual chapters.

Click on your desired choice to download.

Thank your for using this tutorial!
