This tutorial covers how to use GREENR. This tutorial will cover:
- how to perform and refine a basic search
- how to browse by green topics
- how to find information about green topics in particular countries or regions using the World Map feature.
To begin, from the Parrish Library homepage, select the List of Business Databases on the left side of the page.
Then select GREENR from the list of Parrish databases.
(If you are off campus, it will ask for your Purdue username and password.)
GREENR (Global Reference on the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources) offers authoritative content on the development of emerging green technologies and discusses issues on the environment, sustainability and more. Topic, organization, and country portals form research centers around issues covering energy systems, health care, agriculture, climate change, population, and economic development.
When you open that database, you’ll see that you can browse by general categories, like Economics & Trade or Resource Management, by country or region using World Map, or search specific media types such as Video, Case Studies, or Academic Journals. You can also perform a basic or advanced search.
Let’s perform a basic search on the Gulf of Mexico.
Click the search bar, and type “Gulf of Mexico”. Then, click search.
Your results page may need a minute to fully load.
After it's loaded, you'll see that the results have been organized by type and they can be further refined based on document type, subject, publication title, company name, or newspaper section.
For example, we can refine our results to those specifically about “Oil Spills.”
On the lefthand side of the page, click "Oil Spills" from the list of subjects provided.
This will give us a selection of results only about oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico.
Now, we can either browse through or focus on the types of articles provided in our search results, or we can continue limiting by subject on the left-hand side.
Let's choose an article.
Select an article of your choice from the results.
Once you open a result, locate the tool box in the upper right hand corner.
From here, you can print preview, e-mail, bookmark, or download the article. And you can listen to or translate the articles into other language.
Click "Home" to return to the homepage.
From the homepage, please note that you can also browse articles by country or region by using the interactive World Map.
Click "World Map" to open this feature.
This is the World Map.
Select a place of your choice and open its results page.
After choosing a place, you’ll get an overview, a list of articles, as well as portals, conference proceedings, associations and more that relate to that place.
Now you know how to perform and refine a basic search, how to browse by green topics, and how to use the World Map to find information related to particular places.
