Welcome to this tutorial on Morningstar Investment Research Center!

This tutorial will show you:

  • How to access Morningstar Investment Research Center
  • What kind of information is available
  • How to find analyst reports

To get started, from the Parrish Library homepage, select the List of Business Databases on the left side of the page.

Then select Morningstar Investment Research Center.

Note: If you experience issues with this Guide closing when you access the database you may need to open the Guide in a separate window.

What kind of information is available?

Morningstar Investment Research Center offers up-to-date information on 20,000 stocks and mutual funds, and allows screening using a variety of criteria.

Please note: This database has a five concurrent user limit so it’s important to remember to log off when finished.

Database Interface

From the Morningstar homepage, you can use the tabs at the top to navigate to different areas of the database whether you’re looking for stock information by company, mutual funds, ETFs, or markets.

Screening Reports

  • Click on the Companies tab.

From this page you can use the drop down to screen reports by specific data point or build your own screen by selecting multiple data points.

  • Click on the View all Data button.
  • Select “stock industry” from the list.
  • In the pop-up window, choose “airlines” from the third drop down menu.
  • Click “ok.”
  • Select “domestic/foreign” from the list.
  • Choose “domestic” from the third drop down menu.
  • Click “ok.”


Once you’ve selected your screening criteria.

  • Click on the play button towards the bottom right corner of the screen to view the list of results.

The snapshot view will list the company name, the date of the most recent Morningstar analyst report if available, and the Morningstar rating.

You can change this view by selecting a different view option from the drop down menu under view.

  • Click on the company name from the list of results to view the company page.

Use the tabs at the top to navigate to other sections such as performance or financial data, or shareholder information.

Finding Analyst Reports

  • To access analyst reports (if available), click on the stock analysis tab.

If you’re looking specifically for analyst reports, you can find direct links to stock analyst reports, fund analyst reports, and ETF analyst reports from the homepage.

Additional Screening Tools

You’ll also find screening tools for funds and ETFs on the corresponding pages.

  • Click “Markets” at the top of the page to access industry reports and reports by sector.
  • Click “Articles & Videos” to find links to articles written by Morningstar analysts.
  • Click “Portfolio” to access portfolio planning tools such as calculators and videos.
  • Click “Help & Education” to access user guides, training sessions, and more.
