Open Parrish Library Homepage
This tutorial covers how to use the OECD iLibrary. This tutorial will cover:
- how to do a basic search
- how to narrow your results
- how to use other search options
To begin, from the Parrish Library homepage, select the List of Business Databases on the left side of the page.
Then select OECD iLibrary from the list of Parrish databases.
(If you are off campus, it will ask for your Purdue username and password.)
This is the homepage for the OECD iLibrary. The OECD iLibrary provides access to international economics organization's reports with an emphasis on their statistical information.
From the homepage, you'll be able to do a basic search by typing your search terms into the search box.
Let's do a simple search.
Type "food security" into the search box and click search.
Let's examine our search results at the top of the page.
This search found a large number of results, because the basic search box uses several fields, like title, abstract, authors, etc.
In order to narrow our results, let's click "Expand" on the left-hand side of the page.
Here, we can narrow our results by keyword, date, content type, content catalogue, theme, or country.
Click the box next to Books under Content Type. This will narrow our search to only books.
Then, click "submit" to submit the form.
We now have fewer search results since we narrowed it to search books only. This makes our search much more targeted and easy to navigate.
Let's examine one of these search results.
Let's click the first result on the list.
Under the title, you can click PDF or Read to access a chapter of this book.
Locate these buttons.
On the right hand side of the page, click "Cite this Publication."
This provides the citation for the source you've chosen. It also allows you to download the citation into citation management software, like EndNote.
Click the 'X' to exit the citation box.
Let's return to the OECD iLibrary homepage.
Click on OECD iLibrary at the top of the page.
Here, you can browse by theme, country, catalogue, or statistics.
Click one of these options to explore.
Now you know how to do simple search in the OECD iLibrary and how to narrow your results or choose other search options.
