Welcome to this tutorial on Data-Planet!
This tutorial will cover:
To get started, from the Parrish Library homepage, select the List of Business Databases on the left side of the page.
Then select Data-Planet.
Note: If you experience issues with this Guide closing when you access the database you may need to open the Guide in a separate window.
What kind of information is available?
Data-Planet is a statistical aggregation tool that pulls data from all types of sources, which include public, private, domestic, international data in all formats and transforms them into a common structure streamlining the user experience.
You can browse Data-Planet in the left side panel, from current news, economic indicators, subject, or source.
Let’s browse by subject - choose the “Industry, Business, and Commerce” section.
Search Parameters & Export Options
At the top you can choose how the data is available, either by period, month, type, NAICS code, or description.
Once you set your parameters you can choose whether you want the data displayed as a trend, a map, a pie chart, or a ranking.
Note: Not every option will be available for every dataset.
You can hover over different parts of the chart for specific numbers or you can add the data panel by selecting “Show Data.”
You can export by a variety of formats by clicking “Export.”
You can also search using the search bar at the top of the page, then refine your results using the filter options to the left.
If you’re looking for additional, or more specific help,
This will provide Data-Planet’s very own LibGuides collection to browse based on your needs.
What have you learned?
Now you know how to access Data-Planet, what kind of information is available, and how to do a search.
